In August 2010, the Chamber Board of Directors adopted Core Principles. These principles reflect the goals listed in the Chamber of Commerce mission statement and serve as a guideline for what Board members feel is important.
CORE PRINCIPLES
“The mission of the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce is to advance the interests of business and make Carbondale a great place to live, work, visit, play and invest.”
The following core principles coincide with the mission of the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce. They are as follows:
A great place to LIVE & PLAY
- Encouraging population growth through diverse housing ranges and appropriate taxation
- Supporting healthy, safe, walkable neighborhoods where public services are visible and accessible
- Encouraging infill in existing areas and neighborhoods where zoning allows for mixed usage of retail, residential and commercial purposes
- Strengthening educational systems at the elementary, middle and high school levels, preparing students for institutions of higher learning, such as Southern Illinois University Carbondale and John A. Logan College.
A great place to WORK
- Supporting the free enterprise system
- Representing the business community to government
- Anticipating, creating and responding to opportunities that will benefit the Carbondale business community
- Collaborating with regional economic development groups and other Chamber organizations
- Advocating for legislation at the federal, state and local levels that positively impacts Carbondale businesses
- Studying, discussing, and when appropriate, taking a public position on issues that impact our members’ business success
- Encouraging a business friendly environment
A great place to VISIT
- Fostering an environment that is welcoming for out of town guests
- Partnering with the Carbondale Convention & Tourism Bureau, area wineries, and other establishments in a concerted effort to bring overnight guests to the community
- Partnering with area communities in mutually beneficial regional endeavors
A great place to INVEST
- Encouraging economic and community development through entrepreneurship
- Fostering community leadership in various offices, roles, and organizations, both public and private
- Supporting innovative, fiscally responsible public and private ventures that advance Carbondale.
